19 Squadron Spitfire Loss - 1941

Another photo in a set of images I have recently acquired depicts a 19 Squadron Spitfire (either a IIa or a Va) after a heavy crash landing - presumably in France. The codes are QV-F, but nothing else visible in way of markings. Substantially 'crunched' fuselage aft of cockpit.

Anyone have any ideas as to identity??

Re: 19 Squadron Spitfire Loss - 1941

I believe it to be that of Sgt Clifford Davies, shot down on 29 August 1941. I would have liked to see the orginal.
I am writing a book on 19 Squadron.
If I can help in any way in the future. please contact me at

Cheers,
Roger

Re: 19 Squadron Spitfire Loss - 1941

Hi Roger,

This seller had three prints of this Spit

Two have been sold but this one available up to 08 avr. 2012 19:46:22 (Paris)

http://cgi.ebay.fr/FLAK-RGT-49-Solda...item4cfff23b6d

Serial must be P8or P9 following by a 2 on the left side then nothing because the Sky band around the fuselage covered the last two digits -according prints already put on ebay three years old ago-

HTH

Roger

I think you are correct and it must be this aircraft.

I will scan and send you a copy this week. You may use in your published history but I'd welcome a credit for the photograph.

It is the same aircraft in Bertrand's link. My photo is an original period sepia-toned photo, obviously taken by a German serviceman.

Do we know the crash location?
