Luftwaffe losses Norway 26 May 1940

All

Gladiators of 263 Sqdn engaged He 111 and Ju 52 on this day, with Flt. Lt. Hull claiming some He 111 damaged and a some Ju 52 shot down.

Does anyone have details of these aircraft (wk.nr., crew, unit etc)?

TIA
Dave

Re: Luftwaffe losses Norway 26 May 1940

Quite different from what Shores said in Fledgling Eagles, Peter

Took me a while to update that book....

One thing which surprises me is the rank of the pilot of Ju 52/3m WNr 6108. Flieger is basically Private isn't it? How could a pilot have such a low rank? Only reason I can think of is that the individual had been degraded for some reason or other (usually as punishment I suppose).

Also what has happened to the once excellent Norwegian page
http://www.rafandluftwaffe.info/ ?

Looks like a joke by now....

Cheers
Stig

Re: Luftwaffe losses Norway 26 May 1940

Hi,

Excellent information, many thanks for posting.

Also on 26th May Flt Lt Hull engaged a He111 over Saitfjord and it apparantly crashed near Mo? with both engines on fire. Lt Meyer and his crew were rescued.

Now from the above information I would assume that the Lt Meyer in question was actually in the He111 claimed by Flt Lt Williams and Sgt Milligan.

That being the case would anyone have any details on the He111attacked by Hull and another one he claimed damaged later on after he shot down the three Ju52s?

Any help appreciated.

Alex

Re: Luftwaffe losses Norway 26 May 1940

There is interesting listing from the Gen.Qu. loss reports for Ju 52 WNr. 6108 which makes me wonder if the wreck seen at http://ktsorens.tihlde.org/flyvrak/amot.html is actually WNr. 6108 or another plane with parts from WNr. 6108?

Ju 52/3m, 6108, n.n., , , , KGr.z.b.V. 107, , , , , 09-Apr-40, Fuel line leakage. Parts used to repair another machine., Date uncertain. Between 9 and 11-Apr-40., X.Fl.Korps/Norwegen, Gen.Qu.6.Abt. (mfm #1)-Vol.1, , Ort unbekannt, <60%, F, , ,
