JG 77 3/18/44 Italy

Any additional information regarding claims made by JG 77 on 3/18/44. Tony Wood's lists 7 B-17 claims by JG 77. In addition, in the supplemental section, there are 3 additional claims for B-17s and one P-38. Claims occur between 9:50-10:15. Locations are 4647, 4636, 4618, 4631, 4659, 3614. I'm sure on these locations - between Rejika/Fiume and Ljubljana or Ljubljana and Udine? Other threads have provide information regarding I. GC and J. Weal's book JG 53 had great info on this particular day. The map on Nick Beale website was very useful for some of JG 53 claims, however it doesn't cover the area east of Udine.

Re: JG 77 3/18/44 Italy

Hi Jcsancho,

according to "Geschichte des Jagdgeschwaders 77" - Teil 4 of Jochen Prien the I/JG77took off at 9:40 from Gorz and landedat 10:50 and was in combat in the Fiume /Laibach/Udine/Venice area.
Most of the claims seems to be made between Fiume and Laibach in the area that corresoponds with the quadrant 46.
For example, Armin Kohlers claimed 1 B17 about 30 Km North of Fiume.
Hope this helps.
Best regards.

Marco

Re: JG 77 3/18/44 Italy

Thanks Marco for the details on JG 77 ie. take off time and return time, as well as, Armin Kohlers claim details. I haven't seen much information in English on JG 77 during it's operations in Northern Italy in 44'. I did see the book you referenced on line but as you know it's in German. Quadrant 46 must also be close to Ljubiana? Anything else would be greatly appreciated. Thanks again.

Thanks Nick for the link for the activities of Stab JG/77 during this time. It a great resource. I have had an opportunity to view this site on a previous date. I'm focusing on dates which involve ANR operations. Also, thanks for attaching the map think. Take care
