Fighters Up: The Story of American Fighter Pilots in the Battle of Europe
Hi everybody!
In the above mentioned book from Eric Friedheim and Samuel Woolley Taylor must be an article from or about the fighter pilot Donald Dempsey Pond (also Donald Eddy Dempsey) and his life in german POW. Does anybody own this book and could send me the pages about Dempsey? That would be very great! Thank you very much Alex |

Re: Fighters Up: The Story of American Fighter Pilots in the Battle of Europe
I have the book, but haven't read it yet - because there is no index I would have to browse through it to find the info you seek. But, from your post, it sounds like you are not sure if the book contains anything about Pond/Dempsey. Can you confirm that there is information about him in the book ? If so, about when was he captured - that will help me find his story in the book.

Re: Fighters Up: The Story of American Fighter Pilots in the Battle of Europe
I got the hint from his Obituary that his exploits were chronicled in the book "Fighters Up". I don't know exactly what information about Dempsey/Pond contain these book. Maybe the time of his POW (since 16th March 1944 - Stalag Luft 4 Gross-Tychow (formerly Heydekrug) Pomerania, Prussia (moved to Wobbelin Bei Ludwigslust) (To Usedom Bei Savenmunde) 54-16)), maybe the time as fighter pilot (.
About the Google-Books search I got some hits for "Dempsey" in this book. So his story could be possibly mentioned from page 72 (Headline: "They couldn't wait") Also on page 82 and 92 I got some hits. Would be very nice if you could check this capital/pages about his story. Best regards Alex |

Re: Fighters Up: The Story of American Fighter Pilots in the Battle of Europe
There was nothing on p. 72, but he's introduced on p. 82 and mentioned again on p. 92. Give me a few days to browse through the rest of the book to see if there are any other references, and I'll scan the pages where he is discussed. Send me a PM with your email address so I can send you the scans.
