Hurricane V7670
Can anyone tell me the history of this aircraft and how it might have ended up in German markings?

Hi Chris
It's all revealed in Hurricanes over Tobruk! Haven't you a copy? Cheers Brian |

Re: Hurricane V7670
No-North Africa is normally outside my sphere of interest but I have obtained a photo of said aircraft. However, it would appear to be 261 Sqn captured Mar 41 and then recaptured Gambut Dec 1942?

Hi Chris
I hope you didn't rush out and buy a copy! There's nothing in that book about V7670! My mistake! Cheers Brian |

Re: Hurricane V7670
Hi Mark and Chris,
I can't assist you with the details of how this aircraft originally ended up in the hands of the Axis powers. However, I do have access to several 261 squadron log books and can confirm that V7670 was still with 261 Squadron in April 1941. Len Davies and Pain both flew it in April '41 as did other squadron pilots. I suspect that the reason it was linked to Pains flight on April 25th is because there is a photograph of it in German markings in his log book on the dates appertaining to February. However he flew it in March and April as well. Not much help but it may save you wasting your time trying to establish what happened to it in February 41. Gerry |

Re: Hurricane V7670
V7670 was a litte written in two my materiais: in a book "Hurricane in Foreign Service" in 2001, and second time in a separate articel "German's Hurricanes" in 2005 in MIlitaria XX wieku no 3(6). In this last article are 4 photos (2 from captured period plus 2 more from recaptured with RAF pilots) of it plus 2 color drawings.
BTW. Plane was recaptured in Gambut in Jan. 1942 during Crusade Operation. It was one of about 30 Hurricanes which were left in Derna, Bomba and Gazala of 4 squadrons. Germans had at least used 2 of them including V7670 and T9536 (captured a few months later). This secon was Mark I PR Trop of 208 Squadron. Regards, mirekw
