Question Pilot Adam Tiahnybok

Hello!
We found in my grandfather's documents a photo of Adam Tiahnybok and together with my father we got interested in his history. It is very difficult to find any information about him. So far we know that he has been trained in 56 OTU in 1941 and was moved to fighting squadron. We also found out that he was a pilot in the following squadrons: 302, 303, 308 and 316
His number was P-2216.
Any help with getting more information about Adam Tiahnybok would be really appreciated. Thank you!

Re: Pilot Adam Tiahnybok

Adam Tiahnybok (NCO service no. 792431) was posted to 302 Sqn on 6/6/41. On 28/9/41 he had to bail out of Hurricane II Z3674 WX-Y, he was unhurt. On 16/11/42 during a Rhubarb operation over the continent he flew through high tension cables damaging his Spitfire EN922 WX-U, but returned safely to base. He left 302 Sqn in early January 1943 to undergo his officer's course and was commissioned on 15/4/43 (changing his service no. to P-2216). He returned to 302 Sqn on 10/5/43 but on 3/6/43 he was reposted to 308 Sqn, flying with it until 12/11/44. Having completed his combat tour he became an instructor at 61 OTU (fighter training). He then was a flying instructor at 16 (Polish) Service Flying Training School until November 1945. On 14/11/45 he was posted to 303 Sqn, and on 11/1/46 moved to 316 Sqn with which he served until its disbandment at the end of 1946.

Re: Pilot Adam Tiahnybok

One more piece of info: on 11 November 1943 he was seriously injured in a car accident (travelling together with a fellow pilot Marian Wedzik). He resumed flying with 308 Sqn in January 1944.
Was you grandfather a Polish airman, too?

Re: Pilot Adam Tiahnybok

Go to Google and search the following: site:_orb.polishaf.pl Tiahnybok (without the _ between site: and orb but this forum is replacing : followed by o by a %%% smiley)

This will give you access to ORB of 302, 308 and 316 Sqn where the above named pilot appears.

It is possible that his name will appear somewhere else on the website that Google has not found, but that is a start... even if the other posts probably give you as much details as the ORB.

Re: Pilot Adam Tiahnybok

Hello VoyTech! Thank you for such a detailed answer. I know it was some time ago. I was a new user on this forum and must have missed the notification about your reply. Anyway, better late than never. May I ask you where have you found all this information? It is very interesting and helpful.
No, my grandfather was not a pilot but he served in the army during the war.

Re: Pilot Adam Tiahnybok

The information comes from various sources, but mostly from wartime documents held at the Sikorski Institute, London or at the National Archives, Kew.
