Norwegian expert - Spitfire Saga

Dear all,

according to some information from the web it seems that in the last volume of the book "Spitfire Saga bind 4" there are several new photos of Spitfire IX BS458, the personal plane of Wg Cmd Kaj Birksted. One of these photo shows the small size serial number on the fuselage band.
Please if someone can confirm this information, thank you for the help.

but the serial was repainted during when BS458 was assigned to 312 Sqn. When it was the personal Mount of K.Birksted, in 1943, and coded "KB", the serial was in small size at the top of fuselage band.

Re: Norwegian expert - Spitfire Saga

There is a Picture on page 223 showing the letters BS the way you describe it. Unfortunately the rest of the Serial is outside the picture, but this is definetely Birksted's Aircraft With the Wing Commander Pennant, a "beetle" and "Atchashikar" on the airframe. According to the caption this picture was taken at North Weald in August 1943.

The Source is NTB's War Archive/Riksarkivet/film 383.
