Can anyone detail the claims by GC 1/7, 350th Fighter Group and 143 Squadron over convoy KMF26 on the above date.

I have claims by 43 (Ju-88 off Capua), 145 (Me 210, SW of Termoli to 8 m S of Vasto), 111 (Me 190F/G), and 153 (He-177 40 m NW of Djdjelli; He-177 off Djdjelli; He 177 10 m NNE of Djdjelli; 2 He 177 dam 5 m SW of Djdjelli). But nothing by 143. Typo for 153? Thanks Frank-most enlightening! It was a typo for 153-any names for the successful pilots? The French claims for Fw 200s must have been misidentified He 177s

Big extracts of the combat reports of twelve pilots of GC I/7 involved on this day are on the book "Pilotes français sur l’Afrique du Nord et la Corse", by Daniel and Alain Decot.
Sgt-chef Reveillon: take-off 1530 hrs, over convoy 1550 hrs, engaged enemy ac 1635 hrs. Lt Perrier: idem FW 200 dest, Baie de Bougie et environs, Perrier, ref: GC I/7 vlist So I will say this claim was made some minutes after 1635 hrs Sgt-chef Leroy: warned of enemy approach at 1630 hrs, no other time in report Do 217 prob, Baie de Bougie et environs, Lt Roger Perrier+S/Lt Charles Leroy, Spitfire IX, ref: GC I/7 vlist FW 200 dest, Baie de Bougie et environs, Leroy, ref: GC I/7 vlist With Perier, so also some minutes after 1635 hrs It seems that these three pilots were flying CAP over convoy. According to the combat report, Perrier and Leroy attacked 4 bombers, each claiming one and probably claimed another probable together that they did not see crash. Lt De Bellefont: scrambled 1620 hrs, over convoy 1635 hrs, saw enemy aircraft 1640 hrs, attacked He 177 1642 hrs, saw Beaufighter shot down He 117 1715 hrs Lt Tallent: scrambled 1620 hrs, over convoy 1635 hrs, saw enemy aircraft 1640 hrs, attacked He 177 1642 hrs He 177 dam, Bay of Bougie and area, S/Lt Maurice Tallent, Spitfire IX, ref: GC I/7 vlist So around 1642 hrs Cne Dorance: scrambled 1620 hrs, no other time in report Sgt-chef Faren: over convoy 1645 hrs FW 200 dam, area of Baie de Bougie, Cne Michael Dorance+Sgt Chef Fargeu, Spitfire Vb, ref: GC I/7 vlist; 7e Escadre I thin Fargeu = Faren, so some minutes after 1645 hrs Lt Madon: scrambled 1640 hrs, no other time in report Do 217 dam, area of Baie de Bougie, Cne Michel Madon, Spitfire Vb, ref: GC I/7 vlist; 7e Escadre FW 200 prob, Baie de Bougie et environs, Madon, ref: GC I/7 vlist Other pilots reached convoy 10-15 minutes after scramble, so engaged between 1650-1700 hrs probably Lt Simard: scrambled 1640 hrs, over convoy 1650 hrs FW 200 dam, area of Baie de Bougie, Cne Pierre Simard, Spitfire Vb, ref: Porret & Thevenet (no time given) Some minutes after 1650 hrs Sgt-chef Morizot: scrambled 1645 hrs, over convoy 1655 hrs, attacked Do 217s and He 111s just after No claim Lt Rebiere: scrambled 1645 hrs, landed 1750 hrs Do 217 dest, Bay of Bougie and surroundings, Rebière, ref: GC I/7 vlist; 7e Escadre Do 217 dam, Bay of Bougie and surroundings, Lt Raoul Rebière, Spitfire IX, ref: GC I/7 vlist Probaby reached convoy at 1655 hrs, so engaged in the next minutes. Claimed the Do 217 destroyed first. Lt Lansoy: scrambled 1640 hrs, landed due to undercarriage trouble, took off again at 1715 hrs, no other time No claim Do 217 dest, Baie de Bougie et environs, Lt Guy Bouttier, Spitfire IX, ref: GC I/7 vlist No combat report for him |
