Re: ALLIED CLAIMS MEDITERRANEAN 26 NOV 43

Thanks Frank-most enlightening! It was a typo for 153-any names for the successful pilots? The French claims for Fw 200s must have been misidentified He 177s

Re: ALLIED CLAIMS MEDITERRANEAN 26 NOV 43

Big extracts of the combat reports of twelve pilots of GC I/7 involved on this day are on the book "Pilotes français sur l’Afrique du Nord et la Corse", by Daniel and Alain Decot.

Sgt-chef Reveillon: take-off 1530 hrs, over convoy 1550 hrs, engaged enemy ac 1635 hrs.
Lt Perrier: idem
FW 200 dest, Baie de Bougie et environs, Perrier, ref: GC I/7 vlist
So I will say this claim was made some minutes after 1635 hrs

Sgt-chef Leroy: warned of enemy approach at 1630 hrs, no other time in report
Do 217 prob, Baie de Bougie et environs, Lt Roger Perrier+S/Lt Charles Leroy, Spitfire IX, ref: GC I/7 vlist
FW 200 dest, Baie de Bougie et environs, Leroy, ref: GC I/7 vlist
With Perier, so also some minutes after 1635 hrs

It seems that these three pilots were flying CAP over convoy. According to the combat report, Perrier and Leroy attacked 4 bombers, each claiming one and probably claimed another probable together that they did not see crash.

Lt De Bellefont: scrambled 1620 hrs, over convoy 1635 hrs, saw enemy aircraft 1640 hrs, attacked He 177 1642 hrs, saw Beaufighter shot down He 117 1715 hrs
Lt Tallent: scrambled 1620 hrs, over convoy 1635 hrs, saw enemy aircraft 1640 hrs, attacked He 177 1642 hrs
He 177 dam, Bay of Bougie and area, S/Lt Maurice Tallent, Spitfire IX, ref: GC I/7 vlist
So around 1642 hrs

Cne Dorance: scrambled 1620 hrs, no other time in report
Sgt-chef Faren: over convoy 1645 hrs
FW 200 dam, area of Baie de Bougie, Cne Michael Dorance+Sgt Chef Fargeu, Spitfire Vb, ref: GC I/7 vlist; 7e Escadre
I thin Fargeu = Faren, so some minutes after 1645 hrs

Lt Madon: scrambled 1640 hrs, no other time in report
Do 217 dam, area of Baie de Bougie, Cne Michel Madon, Spitfire Vb, ref: GC I/7 vlist; 7e Escadre
FW 200 prob, Baie de Bougie et environs, Madon, ref: GC I/7 vlist
Other pilots reached convoy 10-15 minutes after scramble, so engaged between 1650-1700 hrs probably

Lt Simard: scrambled 1640 hrs, over convoy 1650 hrs
FW 200 dam, area of Baie de Bougie, Cne Pierre Simard, Spitfire Vb, ref: Porret & Thevenet (no time given)
Some minutes after 1650 hrs

Sgt-chef Morizot: scrambled 1645 hrs, over convoy 1655 hrs, attacked Do 217s and He 111s just after
No claim

Lt Rebiere: scrambled 1645 hrs, landed 1750 hrs
Do 217 dest, Bay of Bougie and surroundings, Rebière, ref: GC I/7 vlist; 7e Escadre
Do 217 dam, Bay of Bougie and surroundings, Lt Raoul Rebière, Spitfire IX, ref: GC I/7 vlist
Probaby reached convoy at 1655 hrs, so engaged in the next minutes. Claimed the Do 217 destroyed first.

Lt Lansoy: scrambled 1640 hrs, landed due to undercarriage trouble, took off again at 1715 hrs, no other time
No claim

Do 217 dest, Baie de Bougie et environs, Lt Guy Bouttier, Spitfire IX, ref: GC I/7 vlist
No combat report for him

Re: ALLIED CLAIMS MEDITERRANEAN 26 NOV 43

I have a little on my website about the actions over this convoy: http://www.ghostbombers.com/kf4/South/annex.htmlhttp://www.ghostbombers.com/kf4/South/annex.html based on Allied reports.

I may "borrow" some of the additional information given in this thread for a future update!
