Avia-Fokker F.IX Photo

Hello,

Currently on ebay there is a photo of an Avia-Fokker F.IX. It is captioned as belonging to FFS C 12. I assume that it is the machine GA+BX or did more than one F.IX serve with the Luftwaffe, as The Luftwaffe Stkz database has GA+BX serving with FFS A/B 113?

Regards,

Clint

For info

TF+BO operated by BFS 2,October 1940 at Neuberg. via 'Die Flugzeugfuhrer-Ausbildung der Deutsche
Luftwaffe'

Fokker F.IX coded WL+APZP.

Avia in 1932 built 12 aeroplane for Czechoslovak air forceor info from my notes.

Re: Avia-Fokker F.IX Photo

Hello Kaiyan,

Thanks for the reply.Following your response, I have been browsing further on the net. There seems to be some difference of opinion whether TF+BO was an F.IX or an F.39. Any thoughts?

Regards,

Clint

Re: Avia-Fokker F.IX Photo

Hi, From what I have found the F.IX was a Fokker designation while the F.39 was Avia, I have always assumed that this was because of difference in equipment fits. Any way here is some info I found some time on wiki ago hope it helps.

Fokker
F-IX
Three-engined passenger airliner for KLM.

F-IX D
Three-engined passenger airliner for Czechoslovakian Airlines.

Avia
F.39
3 -engined bomber aircraft for the Czechoslovakian Air Force.
F.139
Proposed twin-engined version of the F.39. Not built.

However I cannot tell which was which may be a serial number would show the difference.

Regards

Kaiyan

To be more exact, also including Czeck sources.

Two Fokker F.IX were built by Fokker
c/n 5106 PH-AGA sold via France (F-APFA) to Spain where it stayed for the rest of its life
c/n 5241 PH-AFK w/o 4.8.1931

12 Fokker F.IX were license built by Avia as F.IX (not F.39) with no known c/n. From deduction the c/n were between 1 - 14
They received serials FIX.1 to F.IX.12 and served with three Squadrons of the 5th Letecky Pluk (81 Sq code letter L, 82 Sq code letter N, 83 Sq code letter P)
Known losses are
L1 crashed 4.2.1937
3 (Sq not known) crashed 22.11.1938
R8 crashed 12.1.1937 (probably not repaired)

2 Fokker F-IX built by Avia for CSA as F.IXD
c/n 15 OK-AFF crashed 11.9.1937
c/n 16 OK-AFG later taken to Germany as D-AAFG 21.4.1939

Some (one?) of the F.IX were later converted to a civil airliner as well F.IXD. I have only one civil registrations
OK-AFH c/n 12
Note OK-AMR c/n 9 was only a temporary registration and this aircraft reverted back to the Air Force again.

Two Fokker F.IX were license built by Avia as F.39 and sold to Yugoslavia. No c/n known (again by deduction were between 1-14) but they were serialled:
F.39.101
F.39.102
One of these was destroyed in April 1941 while the other went to Croatia as 1801
Incidentally Croatia also received one former Avia built F.IX from Germany during the Spring of 1942 listed as serial 1952 (rather oddly).

All this means Luftwaffe only used Avia built F.IX and there are plenty to chose from...

Cheers
Stig
