These Bf 109F-4s of III/JG 3 were photographed between 13.-16.May 1942 at Straubing, an interim halt during their transfer to Tchuguyev. In the second photograph, Ofw. Hans Schleef's "weiße 4" of 7./JG 3 is taxiing past.

To follow on GRM's message (if I dare), note the unusual camouflage of these F-4s. They were F-4/Trops intended for Africa, but instead were sent to Russia. The factory all tan upper surfaces were supplemented by the "splinter" pattern with a green color.

And the well-known Bf 109F-4 'yellow 4' from of Eberhard von Boremski, 9./JG 3, (among others) is from this same sequence of photos.

The colours used over the RLM 79 are two, not the green only : a greeen (RLM 71?) and a grey (RLM 75?).
