FAA ACCIDENT 13 NOV 43
It is believed that Barracuda P9859 of 815 Sqn crashed at Hinton Ampner due to an accident on the above date. Sub-Lt N J Daly was killed as was another crew member but the only name I can come up with is Sub-Lt N Macleod of 759 Sqn which wasn't flying Barracudas. Can anyone confirm one way or the other?

Re: FAA ACCIDENT 13 NOV 43
Chris,
Only Daly listed for this crash on the www.naval-history.net website for November 1943. I am not sure if the release of ADM 358 RN casualty files have gone that far yet. Maybe someone can help ? Regards, Martin. |

Re: FAA ACCIDENT 13 NOV 43
Thanks Martin. That is exactly what I have but local accounts say 2 were killed so being fighter affiliation, I wonder if Macleod was there to advise especially as they had only just taken on the Barracudas?

Re: FAA ACCIDENT 13 NOV 43
Hello,
From "FAA Aircraft 1939 to 1945". Barracuda II, P9859 a bit of a puzzle "RY25.6.43; 815 Sqn Lee, dived in from 3,000 ft on fighter evasion practice, Cheriton, 10 mm SE of Worthy Down, Cat Z 13.11.43 (S/L. N J Daly killed).BUT 756 Sqn Katukurunda, fuel supply failure, ditched, Cat Z 24.12.43 (S/L D B Hayter RNZN OK)." Sea Hurricane Ib, Z4686 759 Sqdn Collided with Z4500 in dogfighting exercise, crashed Thurlaxton, near Taunton 13.11.43, S/L. N. MacLeod killed. Sea Hurricane Ib Z4500, 759 Sqdn, S/L. P. Basssingthwaite killed. Perhaps A different Barracuda than P9859, possibly P9889 ? 815 Sqn 1.10.43 to 11.43. Alex |

Chris
What makes you think someone else killed? Death register has only Daly of service age on list for Winchester Paul |

Locals thought one baled out and hit tail. Obviously not! Alex Thanks for clarification on possibilities for serials I should say that my interest in this is as a 14 year-old, I found the crash site and dug up what was quite a bit of aircraft. Remains went to the SAWAPS but where it all eventually ended up, Lord knows |
