Anson DG809 278 Squadron lost 4 April 1943

Hi guys

Anson DG809 was on a night search mission on 4 April 1943 when it reported that it was being fired on some 40 miles off Great Yarmouth. It FTR and the crew was lost (Telford, Forestell, Bartlett, Hogan, Smith)

Any further information would be appreciated

Cheers
Brian

AB's Anson File says it 'Forced Landed' in the sea 40m SE of Yarmouth, so presumably a radio message was sent just before they ditched.

Hi Brian,

According to the ORB this Anson was sent out to search for a Spitfire pilot who bailed out 140 degrees and 70 miles from Coltishall.

Regards,
Hans

Thanks Larry and Hans
