Küstenfliegergruppe 606, 28-08-1940

Hello,
According to an article found in a newspaper of August 29, 1940, under the body of a German officer was found killed after being parachuted near Hennebont. the aircraft is landing near Vannes with his pilot.
According to the lists of killed that day, I found a name, Uffz. Willi THEISSEN died at Hennebont.
According to my contact at the Wast, the Uffz. THEISSEN Willi, born on 12-11-1913, was killed in action on 28-08-1940 2000 m from Hennebont (no further details).
However, it is the only name on the list of losses Küstenfliegergruppe 606 on that date.
I look for the names of the rest of the crew and the aircraft.

I have Do 17 Z, 7T+DK of 2./Kü.Fl.Gr. 606. Theissen was Bordfunker. The rest of the crew unharmed and therefore not reported.

In the KTB of Gend.Lw.b.Ob.d.M. for August 1940 the following information is given:
28. August 1940: Do 17Z der 2./606 im Luftkampf abgeschossen. Uffz. Wilhelm Theissen (Bordfunker) tot.
Unfortunately, no W.Nr. or other crew names mentioned, so they must have escaped unharmed.

Hello,

Our revised listing in the EoE LW Loss DB:

"28 August 1940: 2./KüFlGr. 606 Dornier Do17Z-3. Badly damaged during night sortie to Bristol and ditched on return off the Hennebont, north-east of Lorient, France. BF Uffz Wilhelm Theißen badly wounded in head - admitted to hospital where died same day, rest of crew unhurt. Aircraft 7T+DK 100% write-off."

Hope this helps.

Re: Küstenfliegergruppe 606, 28-08-1940

Hi,

in June and July 1940 Uffz. Theissen flew in the crew of Obltn.z.S. Waldecker, with Ofw. Hoser as Flugzeugführer and Uffz. Hundt as Bordmechaniker.

Is it probable, but by no means certain, that he belonged to this crew on the day of this fatal incident.

It is to bad that I did not see this request earlier today, as I have concluded my work at BA/MA for this visit this afternoon...

I do not have the registry for RM 118 at hand, and it has not been transferred to invenio yet, so I have to contact BA/MA in order to check for a KTB covering 2./606 at this time.

Regards,
Andreas B

Re: Küstenfliegergruppe 606, 28-08-1940

I can confirm that this ac landed (I can see no mention of a crash) at 0516 hrs and that the crew were Helmut Waldecker (later RK holder POW 15 Oct 43 with KG 6), Ofw Fritz Hoser & Uffz Herbert Hundt (last 2 were killed 19-20 Jun 41). It would appear that they were attacked by an unidentified aircraft near Vannes and that Thiessen baled out
