Attack on Mostar airfield, Yugoslavia, 29 November 1943

On 29 November 1943 seven Allied fighters attacked Mostar airfield and damaged seven German aircraft on the ground. Any clue about their unit?

Cheers,
Boris

Hello,

No.2 Sqn SAAF Spitfires:

On 28 November (1943), a dozen Spitbombers of 2 Sqn - now with four 20 mm cannon each - attacked trains and rolling stock on the Dubrovnik-Metkovic line and killed a number of the enemy on the Dubrovnik-Stano road just east of the railway. Inland at Mostar next day, a low-level attack on the aerodrome destroyed four and damaged nine enemy aircraft, set some vehicles alight and silenced two flak posts. A Bf109F was also damaged in a brush with Lt D. V. Ducasse, but Lt C. M. D. Reitz failed to return. His fate was unknown until 18 January 1944, when there were loud cheers in 2 Sqn officers' mess as the BBC announced that he was a prisoner of war in Germany.

Col,

Fantastic! Thank you very much! I just found the 2 (SAAF) Sqn ORB at NA site (and it is for free).

The date is 29 November and it fits perfectly

Cheers,
Boris
