Hauptmann Stein was commander of Küstenmehrzweckestaffel 3./706 at the outbreak of war in September 1939. When this unit was renumbered Küstenfligerstaffel 3./906 on October 25, 1939, Hauptmann Stein continued as commander of the unit. On January 8, 1940, he was replaced by Hauptmann Klümper. Unfortunately, I do not have the first names of these two officers, nor do I have more information about Hauptmann Stein.

Re: Hptm. Stein, St. Kptn 3./706

This was Maj Kurt Stein, Gr Kdr of III/KG 54 18 Sep-12 Oct 42 (killed over Malta). Before that he was St Kap of 7/KG 54. At the start of Sep 42, KGr 806 (formerly KuFlGr 806) became III/KG 54 so with the maritme connection, it is possible that he was the same

Pretty good sense, Stein in spite of his quite high rank, major, was sta.ka. of a staffel of old K.gr.806, already under KG54 command for 1942, on 01.sept 42 renamed III.KG54, Stein became at that time sta.ka.7./kg54, then a few later gr.kdr. There is picture of him in the Radtke book.
