Last German Aircraft Shot down in Home Waters
I am not sure if this has been asked before (a quick search has come up with nothing) but I have found a document which states between 2030 and 2230 hrs on 20 Mar 45, Flt Lt K Kennedy & Fg Off A T Morgan of in Mossie NT450 of 125 Sqn shot down a Ju 188 10 miles east of Cromer. The assumption in this document was that the loss was intruder related. Theo Boiten and I cannot find a corresponding loss?

Re: Last German Aircraft Shot down in Home Waters
In the 125 Sqd. ORB (20/21-03-1945 t/up 2030 t/down 2230 ) Kennedy states he made contact on the e/a while it was at 4000 ft 200 IAS. He fired a burst which flamed the port engine, following his next burst the port engine and mainplane were seen to be burning furiously and the e/a was losing height, they took a photo noting the square fin and rudder. The e/a then crashed into the sea position G7869 , following the engagement the crew got two further contacts before returning to base.
I think this may have been asked about on a forum before (was it on TOCH asking about a body washed ashore with target Grimsby April 45 ? ) but no possible e/a had been identified . Did the KG26 attempt to attack a convoy off Peterhead on 21-4-45 not produce a last aircraft shot down attacking the UK, assume though the losses were too far out to qualify as Home Waters. Had wrong month down now corrected to 20/21-03-1945. Just found the previous thead I was referring to above it was from Soren Flensted dated 10-9-2009 and was titled "Hull23/1945" and was enquiring about a Helmut Mathewes no. 60930/108 whoes body was washed ashore Denmark, info was died Hull 23 March 1945. Another post on this thread said the no. 60930 had been linked to NJG1 Last edited by Brian Bines; 4th August 2015 at 18:01. |
