Bergen, 10 April 1940

Apart from the dive-bombing attack by 16 Skuas (800 & 803 Sqns) on German shipping in Bergen Harbour, resulting in the sinking of Konigsberg, were further attacks made by the FAA or RAF on targets at Bergen on this date?

Not interested in attacks on subsequent days, only on the 10 April 1940.

Re: Bergen, 10 April 1940

Hi BruceMk11,

In my book Coastal Dawn I mention who was flying on this day and the attacks from what I can recall:

10 April:

240 Sqn London flying boat on recon duty - this is the unit that found the Konigsberg the pervious night shortly before 00.00 hrs.
254 Sqn active.

I've a copy of Captain W Wollaston diary for 10 April 1940 on a neutral vessel and the thoughts of Vice Admiral Thomas ‘Tom Thumb’ Phillips on the Konigsberg attack too.

Regards

Andy Bird

Re: Bergen, 10 April 1940

Thanks Andy. That points toward only the FAA attacking Bergen that day.

Cheers

Re: Bergen, 10 April 1940

A single 254 Sqn Blenheim did a photo recon using an F24 camera, two hours forty-five minutes after FAA attack over Bergen.
