Bf 109 F in 1940

It is known that Werner Mölders flew a Bf 109 F-1 and F-2 in October 1940 but did any other Geschwader Kommodore do likewise?

Re: Bf 109 F in 1940

Chriss,

IIRC all Bf109Fs delivered for service with front line units before the end of 1940 went to JG 51, where they were allocated to Stab and I./JG51. There is a list at the BA - Zuweisung von Jagdflugzeugen ... -. that shows when and to whom these were delivered from October 1940 onwards. I'll give you what information there is in this list ( if I manage to find it ).

Cheers

Jochen

Guys, did not both Molders and Galland receive F-0 machines in 1940? There are photos of both with square type E supercharger intakes.

John,

the Bf 109 F with the square type supercharger intake you refer to was WerkNr. 6714, a Bf109F-2 that Galland according to his Flugbuch - flight log - first flew on 15 April 1941.

On the other hand I have yet to see a Bf109F from Mölders with that kind of supercharger intake.

Cheers

Jochen

Re: Bf 109 F in 1940

Thanks, Jochen. I guess I cannot argue with a FB (unless someone entered it incorrectly). Curious why it would be entered as an F-2 when both the F-1 and 2 had been flying with "normal" supercharger intakes for some time. As "primo" leaders surely they would have "the latest" types in that time frame?
