SS Merisaar sunk by German aircraft 15 July 1940
Hi guys
A bit of a mystery to me, so I hope someone can unravel the pieces!! SS Merisaar was an Estonian cargo vessel captured by U-99 on 12 July 1940; she was ordered to a French port, provided with a German (?) crew and sent on a clandestine (?) mission to the Irish coast, where she was erroneously bombed by a German aircraft (what type/unit?) off Queenstown on 15 July. The crew was rescued (by what?) Something doesn't sound quite right to me! Over to the experts! Cheers Brian
