Unknown Soviet aircraft
I just found two photos of destroyed Soviet aircraft. They seem to be the same type - a biplane with rectractable landing gear:

Re: Unknown Soviet aircraft
Hello Primoz,
I imagine those are I-153s. I may be wrong, but this is a strong possibility Regards, Paul |

Re: Unknown Soviet aircraft
Certainy not I-153s, as they were single seaters without the inverted-gull lower wing. Try this one

Re: Unknown Soviet aircraft
I think it may be the DI-6 version that was a trainer plane. It appears the rear gunner position (the gunner normally sat facing the back of the plane) now contains a forward facing seat. The last photo on this page shows the version with the gunner position.

That looks like a headrest behind the glazing.

Re: Unknown Soviet aircraft
Thanks a lot. It seems to be a trainer version of the DI-6.

Re: Unknown Soviet aircraft
Graham and RSwank, thank you for correcting me.
The 14 ShAP, based near Gomel, had a large number of DI-6 aircraft in storage when the unit was destroyed at the beginning of the war. Perhaps these photos could be related to this unit. |

Re: Unknown Soviet aircraft
Good day,
14 ShAP from 1 October 1939 worked on I-15bis (airfield Slonim). 51 Di-6Sh were left in warehouses airfield Ziabraŭka (from the structure of VVS RKKA were excluded). Was in the hangars at least until the autumn of 1940. Probably take them to the "cemetery" then. On 01.06.1941, in VVS in the Western part of the USSR there were only 15 defective aircraft. Regards, Kirill |
