Venegono Airfield (Varese , Italy)

Hi!
Anyone have information about the activity of the Luftwaffe in this airfield?
In particularly I'm searching information about a plane crashed in Tradate , near the airfield. Perhaps a Nardi FN-305 ex-Regia Aeronautica, war booty after the September 1943's armistice . There are witnesses who tell me of a pilot decheased. No information in the italians archives . May be a german ?
Every help will appreciated!
Regards.
Luca

Re: Venegono Airfield (Varese , Italy)

Venegono is located very close to the Swiss border, and so it has the Swiss alps in the back.
As far as I know, Italian nightfighters were operating from Venegono, using a few Bf110 for the defence of Milano and Torino.
1944/1945 the Luftwaffe mainly used airfields in the northeastern part of Italy, closer to the Austrian and Bavarian airfields.

Beside the landing of a B-24 whose crew thought they were already in Switzerland, Venegono saw the desert of Italian pilots with each a CR42 and Saiman 202M to the Swiss airport Locarno/Magadino in 1943.

You can find the interestimg stories of the two planes and their crews on the splendid, re-opened site of warbirds in Switzerland, www.warbirds.ch

Regards
Harry
