9th Air Force
Where do I find detailed information about 9th Air Force operations in the spring of 1945 ? Especially about their bombing of Germany.

Re: 9th Air Force
If you go here http://www.ibiblio.org/hyperwar/AAF/AAFHS/ You get a long list of documents and Item 128 is a Combat Chronology for the USAAF with each air force listed separately as they are formed during the war.
It may not give you the detail you want but it is a start... |

Re: 9th Air Force
There was a book way back called The 9th Air Force in World War 2 by Kenn C. Rust: http://www.abebooks.co.uk/servlet/Bo...2520C%2520Rust
But it may not go into the kind of detail you're after, it dealt more with salient missions and monthly totals of claims and bomb tonnages. |

Another good book is "Air War EUROPA" by Eric Hammel. It gives an day-by-day combat chronology of all U. S. Air Forces in Europe 1942 - 1945. Despite the mentioned books, which are excellent, you'll find detailed 9th AF operations day-by-day for spring 1945 on microfilm reels of AFHRA. For example, the time frame February 2nd - February 12th is documented in microfilm reel # B5692 with 1449 pages. The time frame March 17th - March 24th 1945 you'll find on microfilm reel # 5696 (1714 pages) and so on. Best wishes ! Horst Weber |

Re: 9th Air Force
Thanks for the help.
I know the Combat Chronology for the USAAF and it gives a good overall information, but it is not detailed enough. The 9th Air Force in World War II by Kenn rust is a good book. I bought it last year - but again, it is not detailed enough to give information about daily missions. Snautzer, I downloaded the file and I am going to enjoy it tomorrow on a long trainride. I have the book Air War Europa. Good book but not enough information about 9th Air Force activities. Horst, thanks for the information about AFHRA. I am going to order these pages. I am working on a book/website about the last couple of months of the war. I am trying to analyze every bombing raid on German, Holland, Denmark and Norway. The book is already about 7-800 pages and I am far from finished. Carsten |

Re: 9th Air Force
Carsten -
Quote:
1) Ask then to give you the reel numbers for the entire run of 9th AAF daily operations summaries from 1 Jan 45 to 8 May 45; 2) I am guessing that might be 16 to 18 reels @ $30.00 each; 3) Be sure and ask for them in DVD format on a disc rather than in microfilm format so you can use them directly on your computer - you can then split your screen horizontally and work from the opsums to your manuscript. Good luck and best wishes for your project! L. |
