Do 17 Flettner tabs?
Hi;
in looking at pictures of the Do 17, I've noticed that the elevator tabs seem to always be opposite the movement of the elevator. This would imply to me that these were Flettner-style tabs.So, my question is, did the Do 17 have a "moving" tail similar to Messerschmitt products (109, 110, 262) where the angle of the entire tail was changed to affect trim? Were these tabs indeed of the Flettner variety, or am I just noticing something incredibly coincidental? And if they were Flettner tabs, were any other control surfaces also so equipped? Thanks! Re: Do 17 Flettner tabs?
The Dornier 17 had a moving tailplane - this is visible in several ground photos. I don't know about the tabs.

Re: Do 17 Flettner tabs?
If it had a moving tail, them the tabs would have been Flettner type. No point in having two separate trim adjustments.
I'm surprised at how many German aircraft made use of Flettner tabs - especially Messerschmitt products. Paul |
