Sd Ldr Robert Stanford Tuck-combat of June 21,1941

On June 21,1941, Sq Ldr Tuck was shot down over the sea in a battle with Bf-109s. He claimed a couple of Bf-109s before being shot down.
One Bf-109F-2 of 5./Jg-2 flown by Uffz. Lorenz Dessoy was shot down over the water 12 kms of Le Treport and the pilot was rescued by ASR.
Was JG-2 involved in shooting down SL Tuck?
Although JG-2 claimed a Hurrican,it was at 1640 hrs, which seems too late, since Tuck was shot down in the early afternoon.

Hi,

this Hurricane was from 1 RAF SQ. Two Spitfires from 92 RAF SQ were claimed by many pilots from II/JG2 and III/JG26. It seems impossible to estimate the pilot who s/d Tuck.

hi
this "combat" of Tuck's took place over the North Sea - Tuck engaged the 109's off the Hague and after being shot down was rescued by a Gravesend coal barge.- the circumstances of this combat are truly amazing !

Re: Sd Ldr Robert Stanford Tuck-combat of June 21,1941

I have to mention the remarkable amount of fighter pilots who claim two or more kills on a combat where they are themselves shot down. I have often felt that the lack of substantion after the event may have a lot to do with the lack of a combat film. Fighter pilots are by nature high achievers, I wonder if the opportunity to make a claim which can be neither proved nor disproved at the time comes into the combat report.

I am not singling Tuck out for this. His claims in the Battle of Britain seem to be very accurate, however... it does seem an occurrence that repeats itself time and again.
