LW losses Oranienburg 20.04.1945

41 Sqn claimed 5 Fw190D on this date, in the evening. Does anyone have an idea which LW unit were their opponents?

Hi John,

Worth a shot, but I have 401 Squadron as the victors over 2./JG26 in the late afternoon. 41Sqn met their opponents after 1930.

Re: LW losses Oranienburg 20.04.1945

Thanks guys,

I don't think Russian. 41 were experienced pilots.

IV/JG3 is a good match for time but I think they were flying FW190A, and their opponents were 350 (Belgian) Sqn. Unless they had FW190Ds on strength in which case?

I don't know anything about JG4. Were they flying the Fw190D?

Re: LW losses Oranienburg 20.04.1945

Looking again at your suggestion Remi I find that IV/JG3 were flying at least some Doras in April. Were the 4 losses of 14 Staffel which included Fw Willi Maximowitz and Fw Bruno Neumann, the victims of 41 Sqn? In the past Maximowitz is credited to unknown Russian fighters.

Did 15 Staffel suffer any losses on this date?

Re: LW losses Oranienburg 20.04.1945

If location is really Orianenburg the natural candidate for the losses, having the d9, the 1+2.JG26 are wrong losses are posted around Schwerin
IV.JG3 loss one D9 on 24.april the one of Romm, so they hv at least one...
14. lost 3 planes, 2 location unknown, at least to me, the other Maximowitz around Frankfurt, the 15. one Neumann around Berlin, could be Neumann
around Berlin II.JG4 lost also planes nd pilots but norm. flew heavy a-8s

Re: LW losses Oranienburg 20.04.1945

Hi Remi,

Looking into it I find Maximowitz is flying a Dora-9 when he is killed, and that 350 Sqn does not claim "Fw190D" but just "Fw190". I wonder if 350 met 9.JG4, ands that 41 did indeed inflict 3 losses on 14.JG3 and one to 15.JG3?
