Bf-110 losses, 28 Aug. 1944

Hello,

Has anyone got information regarding 3 Messerschmitts Bf-110 claimed by the 353rd FG, 28 August 1944.

2X Me-110 at 19:00 area of Wavre (Belgium) claimed by Capt Ruscitto James Otto 350FS
1X Me-110 claimed by 2nd Lt Bouldin Frank H. Jr at 19:30 15Mi SE of Brussels (Belgium) 352nd FS

Were there any Me-110 lost or damaged on that particular day near Brussels or Wavre (Belgium) ?

Information regarding the names of the German crews, their fate, unit, or regarding the Werknummer and fuselage code of the Messerschmitts would be much appreciated.

Regards,
Dirk

Hi Dirk,

I am sorry I can not help you, but I am trying to research a little bit Capt Ruscitto.

So may I ask you if you have anymore information about this his claim or any other?

TIA

Pavel

There is no Bf 110 lost over Belgium (or even western Europe) on this date in both Michel Balss' Nachtjagd books.

I doubt they were AC of a Zerstörer units, but may be any 2-engine AC (Me 410 or even Do 217) or just night-fighters that were lost without human loss, or overclaims.

Re: Bf-110 losses, 28 Aug. 1944

Hi !

These victories are mentioned in
USAAF (European Theater) credits for the destruction of enemy aircraft in air-to-air combat World War 2 by Frank J Olynyk (published by the author May,1987) and on The Air Force Historical Research Agency website (http://www.au.af.mil/au/afhra/avc/avc.asp)

Perhaps the planes in question only received minor damage.

Best regards

Luc

Hi Luc,

thanks for interesting link.
Have you any experience with searching this site?
I was not succesful - the search alwas displays only the information I put into the searching fields...

Can you give me any advice how to use it properly? I have read the instructions but no luck.

Thanks

Pavel

The first check box on each line is to indicate if you want to display this information on the result page, not that you want to research something about this field.

For WWII, the fields "position", "type", "enemy aircraft" and "US aircraft" are empty. The base will only give you the name, rank, ID number of the pilot, the date of the claim and the total credit of the day.

Thanks a lot Laurent! I have made classical mistake - I was checking the box I was thinking are used for searching not for the result report!:-(

You might also check into the losses of multi-engine Allied aircraft.

This is not necessarily operational aircraft. I remember Typhoon pilots from the 609 Sqn who shot down in January 44 a Bf 110 and a Fw 58 which were on a flight test and on a weather flight near Brussels. I guess there were many such flights around Brussels and Gosselies.
