Watson´s Whizzers Me262 „Pauline“ / „Delovely“

Hello,

the Me 262´s captured at Lechfeld and refurbished by the 54th ADSq (Armament Disarmament Squadron) are well known.

Platoon leader Master Sergeant Freiburger and his men named each plane with a girl name such as „Wilma Jeanne“, „Marge“, „Joanne“ „Vera“ and so on, written on the left side of the nose.

After Col. Watson´s Whizzers took over the planes and had them ferried to Melun-Villaroche in France, those names were painted over and replaced by new names, chosen by its pilots.

So Captain Ken Dahlstrom´s „Pauline“ was renamed „Delovely“.

I know a photo of „Pauline“. But is there also a photo of „Delovely“?

Does someone know the Werknummer of this Me262?

All I have is that this aircraft was taken over by the US Navy and given the bureau number 121444.

Captured Luftwaffe aircraft. WkNr 111367. To USAAF as Watson's Whizzers "333", named "Feuding 54th", later "Pauline" and "Deelovely". Assigned to Armament Test Division, NAS Patuxent River, MD in Dec 1945 and allocated BuNo 121444. Transferred to Naval Proving Ground Dahlgren Junction, VA, Oct 11, 1946. Displayed at NAS Anacostia, then abandoned at the Naval Research Laboratory, Washington, Dc. Scrapped.

111367 does not seem to be a valid werknummer.

many thanks for your answers. So "Pauline“ was Lt Bob Anspach´s kite (thank you,Snautzer).

@Jim: Yes., „Pauline„ has only the two bottom cannon ports open.
Photos of the right side of „Pauline“ with “Feudin 54th A.D.“ painted on its nose are well known, see for example the Classic Publications book, Me262 Vol. 4 (authors Smith/Creek) on page 807.

Evidently „Pauline“ has got another nose assembly (different camouflage pattern) and a new Jumo004 (right hand side).

This leads to Capt Robert L. Quigley's Photo Collection, where you will find also some nice photos of captured German helicopters (FL282, FA223).

Quigley was head of the 86th ADC Air Transport Group flying C-47 cargo/transport planes. One of their jobs was to transport Allied Air Technical teams in German and France to investigate advanced German aviation Technology.

Thank you for the confirmation that "Pauline" was an Me 262 A-2a.

Even more so for Quigley's picture showing that the name "Pauline" was painted over the camouflage demarcation line. This means I have to issue a correction to my identification based on the nose pattern of the aircraft behind 170083 as "Pauline" on this photo:

As the aircraft has four cannon ports and there is no demarcation line it is probably "Julie", but definitely not "Pauline".
