Roger Emile Motte (aka Maurice Remy)
This pilot served with various French units before escaping to Britain in 1940. After flying with 238 Squadron he joined 32 Squadron and was credited with a Ju88 shot down on 10 June 1941. He force-landed in Eire and was interned until 1943. Did he escape or was he released?
He returned to action with 345 (GC2/2 'Berry') Squadron and then with 326 (GC2/7 'Nice') Squadron where he is credited with two shared victories flying with Gabriel Gauthier on either 9 or 18 February 1945. One of these victories is credited as a "probable". My question is about the date, and the result. 9 February 1945 is shown on most sites but this one .... https://www.ordredelaliberation.fr/f...ns/roger-motte ...gives different details and attributes three confirmed kills to Motte. Also, why was Motte flying as a wingman to Gauthier? He had roughly the same combat experience, was a decorated fighter pilot and they were the same rank.... nevertheless he was not even the leader of an escadrille. I should however point to the fact that Gauthier was not leading an escadrille either but within days would succeed to command of the Groupe. regards Keith |
