The 17th May 1940 over France

Hi,

I`m looking for following informations:
- I wonder if somebody has the names of crewmembers of the V-156F No.84 from the AB3, which crash-landed in the late evening on the beach by Isigny
- time of mission of the Potez 63.11 No.151 from the GRI/36, which was badly damaged by Bf110s (perhaps if not exactly time only sugestion:dawn, morning, afternoon, evening)

No answer I'm afraid, but I am wondering about the serial you give for the Vought. Since only 40 were ordered and delivered the highest number known is 40, which means it is not possible for a serial number 84 to exist

Any update with regard to the correct number??

Hello Robert,

Nothing on the time of the GR I/36 loss nor anything for AB3 I'm afraid but I do have the following on 17 May 1940 ?

AB 1 Vought 156F (4). Damaged during attack on Walcheren and crash-landed out of fuel on beach near Isigny. Mt. Claude and SM Le Guevel unhurt. Aircraft 2 a write-off.

I don`t remember the source - probably it was an article from Internet - so it`s no truth.

I would appreciate to know your source for your details. I have a couple of books by Lucien Morareau and they only confirm that aeroplane No 4 was in use by AB1. Nothing is listed by him on the 17th as a loss though.

The digit 4 listed in brackets is, if I understand you correctly, the serial number?
When you say aircraft 2 does that refer to the fuselage code? The V.156F seems to have been one of those aeroplanes using seperate fuselage codes vs serialnumbers on the tail fin/rudder

This loss is mentioned by Lucien Morareau on p29 of his L’Aéronautique Navale Française (Hors Série Avions No1). Details of the aircraft came from an unpublished list compiled by Morareau which I received from a well-respected Belgian researcher. As you rightly suppose, the number in brackets is the serial number while the other number was the fuselage code. As you say, these were not always the same number which can lead to confusion.

Being interested in French aviation is unfortunately not the same as being able to read the darn (sorry ) language... I see where it is mentioned after hobbling through the page again.

Seing your answers to everything "the French campaign", makes it more and more interesting to get your book, once it gets published! I hope we don't have to wait too long Peter?
