Please be seated.

I came to discuss aircrafts with an old man the other day and he wanted to show me something that he had ”liberated” from a German train back in –43 or so. He claims to have picked the seat out of a twin-engine aircraft during transport from Norway south thru Sweden but I have not a clue what this really is. NB, the legs are added by him to be able to use it. There are no markings whatsoever, not even under the upholstery. If somebody has a lead on this I would be most grateful.

Cheers!
Bengt

Question Re: Please be seated.

Well, not an expert on aeronautical upholstery or furniture...

I would risk it belonged to a large aircraft, maybe an hidroplane or maritime patrol? Looks to be a comfortable seat for long journeys.

Re: Please be seated.

Hi,

I have seen a seat with a base similar to this before and I can't recall which aircraft type it was in. I'm pretty sure that the seat cushion and the fabric sleeve over the back are later, post war, additions.

The wooden base to the seat was mounted on a metal carrier and I'm almost certain that the whole unit could be swiveled.

I may be mistaken, but I don't have my cockpit books to hand!

Regards,

David

Yes I agree David. I noticed the fabric is new but forgot about the large cushion... So my thinking may be completely wrong since only the metal base is the original seat.

Nope, both the seat cushion and the backrest cover are original and not a post war addition. This is how the seat looked back in –43, minus the legs of course. If they are not standard then there where some very handy mechanics at the air base of origin.

The transports of men and material thru Sweden stopped in 1943 so it cannot be younger than that.

Original, so it´s in nice shape and may indicate the seat was almost new when "liberated"... Maybe a hack machine with special "VIP seat?"
