905th Q.M. Svc. Avn., Brookley Field, Alabama
I am researching a Danish-American serviceman in the USAAF, Ove Brandt Nielsen (39029816), cf.
http://www.danishww2pilots.dk/profiles.php?person=447 According to the his Petition for Naturalization he served as a PFC in 905th Q.M. Svc. Avn., but that is all I know about his service at this point. My understand is, that this unit was 905th Quartermaster Company Service Aviation, but I have unable to find further information about this unit. Would anyone be able to point me to further sources about the function etc. of the unit, which I believe was part of the supply organisation of the Quartermaster Corps? Regards Mikkel Plannthin

Re: 905th Q.M. Svc. Avn., Brookley Field, Alabama
Mikkel,
I gathered that Brookley Field was home of (the) Mobile Air Depot with the Southeast Army Air Depot and Mobile Air Service Command. One of the tasks was training of aircraft maintenance personnel and overseas support. Regards, Leendert |

Re: 905th Q.M. Svc. Avn., Brookley Field, Alabama
Just to add to the mystery, when I did a search for the exact phrase
"905th Quartermaster Company Service Aviation" I found this article: https://www.newspapers.com/clip/4688...urg-telegraph/ This would seem to imply that the unit (unless the name is confused or in error) was based at the Middletown Air Depot in Pennsylvania. The location is near Harrisburg PA, later called Olmstead AFB. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Harris...nal_Guard_Base Last edited by RSwank; 18th March 2020 at 20:45. |

Re: 905th Q.M. Svc. Avn., Brookley Field, Alabama
Thank you both.
The exact unit abbreviation given in the petition for naturalisation is "905th Q.M. Svc. Avn."; I have interpreted this as "905th Quartermaster Company Service Aviation" after having search different sources including the internet (and the above mentioned article from newspapers.com). I might be wrong. One of my problems is that I am not that familiar with the unit structure in the USAAF. Mikkel
