198 Squadron 1944 Manston

Hi guys

I have a photograph depicting RAF Manston's 'Scoreboard' 1941-1945, on which is shown 4 V-1s kills for 198 Squadron's Typhoons. I have no record of these - have you?

Cheers
Brian

Brian,

Have you consulted the squadron's operational record book?

Hi Stephen - not yet but plan to do so soon. It's just that I have no record of this unit operating against V-1s.

Cheers
Brian

Re: 198 Squadron 1944 Manston

Hi Brian,

Hmmm, I wonder if one of the personalities on the squadron, maybe the C.O., bagged four V-1s? Anyways, it should be an interesting search and if you come up with any dope, let us know. Thanks.

Stephen

Hi Chris

Yes, you did - but the photograph shows 4 for 198 Squadron! Hope to clarify tomorrow.

Brian
My official RAF scoreboard made on 31 August 1944 shows nothing on 198 Sqn and no high ranked leaders on Typhoons, only 137 Sqn with 30. This does contain some errors, however.

Re: 198 Squadron 1944 Manston

Hi guys

the mystery deepens! I have had a peek at 198 Squadrons' ORB - nothing! The unit did not even appear to have operated from Manston during this period - but from Ford and Hurn before departing for France. Yet, this photo exists. I am not sure how to print an image for you to see - some help would be appreciated.

Cheers
Brian
