ZG-26 Konigsberg Neumark

Hello,

I'm researching for some time actions of ZG26 in 1944. They were active over Berlin, Politz, Posen, Kolberg and so on fighting with US bombing raids. Many of Me 410 I wonder if someone would be able to help me identify the crews and the coordinates of the Me-410 that were shot down in this area were shot down, especially near ZG26 base in Konigsberg Neumark.

- Wrknm: 110111, 3U+KK, 2./ZG26, 29.07.44, 100% destroyed,

- Wrknm: 120102, BR+KS/+198, II./ZG26, 08.44, 100% destroyed,

- Wrknm: 120123, PE+TK, 1./ZG26, 05.44, 100% destroyed,

Kris,
420430 is of course the machine preserved at the RAF Museum at Cosford. Their history of it is here:

Re: ZG-26 Konigsberg Neumark

Kris,

Even though I can’t help, may I take the opportunity to ask you a couple of questions re ZG26 as you are researching them. I am looking for possible losses that can have been caused by Swedish AA

I guess you are aware of the Me 410 - Wrknm: 420622, 3U+KM, 4./ZG26 B-1/U4, 28.04.44 shot down in Sövde, Sweden

What i am looking for is two other incidents, do you have any records of losses or damaged ZG26 machines the following dates?

13-May-1944 Me 210? (410?) Ystad, in air combat with a B-17
6-Oct-44 Me 210? (410?) Trelleborg

Thank you!

Kris,

Your list is confusing. Many dates do not match with known loss dates. What is your source for this data?

Thanks,

John

Re: ZG-26 Konigsberg Neumark

John,

The sources for this are Bo Widfelds books on LW aircraft that ended up in Sweden during the war.

The crash 28.Apr.44 is confirmed, by pictures and full documentation

It is the other two I am trying to get a grip of. On those dates, 13-May-1944 and 6-Oct-44, Swedish AA reports shoting not just warning fire but effective fire at "ME 210s" and reports hits to these mashines and that they possible went down in the Baltic sea.

One possibility is that these Me 410 were from ZG26 as they could have reached Sweden and I wanted to see if there are any reports from ZG26 on these dates for either lost or damaged aircrafts or if the Swedish reports were "optimistic".

Thank you
Peter

John

Kris is quoting from the book written by Peter Petrick/Werner Stocker 'Messerschmitt Me 210/Me 410 Hornisse-Hornet An illustrated Production History'

And yes, many dates are incorrect. I have no idea why actually....

Cheers
Stig

Re: ZG-26 Konigsberg Neumark

Dear
Thank you for your interest and entries about the ZG-26 from Konigsberg/N.:

Andy:
Interesting story, but not exactly accurate, this plane was based at the airport in Konigsberg / N. as 3U + AK, then sent to the Seenotgruppe 80 with the designation F6 + CC and on May 8th, 1945 was captured by the Allies in Vaerlose, this museum designation is probably a combination of two different VKz ...

Peter:
I do not have a ZG-26 reports, as George wrote in the link provided and in the book Me 210/410 No. 33 on page 31, it is listed with the date April 11: Me 410A-1 / U4 - Wnr: 420622, 3U + KM, 4 ./ZG26 at 11.57 flew over the Sovdeborg, Swedish Bofors 40mm accurately shot down 3U + KM, crew: pilot Fw. Max W. Schutz and the shooter Fw. Josef Kaulartz was killed and one accidental Swedish military man who was riding a bicycle ... who was he, maybe you know?

John:
In fact, the list is from the book that Stig mentioned, from what I have noticed, there are shifts in it by a few days - I do not know why, maybe these are the dates of the report and not the actual losses, the locations of probable falls of the planes are also very imprecise.
So maybe don't look at the dates only on WNr or Verbandkennzeichen, maybe someone would have record from maps like PlatzQuadrat or map 15-Ost S / xx x x

Best wishes,
Kris

Not real important, but was the Verbandkennzeichen of W.Nr 420430 when captured F4+CC? I believe there is a photo of this.

Re: ZG-26 Konigsberg Neumark

there was an excellent article in LiF 17 on the subject.

The list of Peter Petrick/Werner Stocker published has many wrong entries... possibly some mystake in file, that has not been noticed moved some entries up and down...
