RAF losses

Hi

In The armed rovers, by Roy C. Nesbit, there is a statistic over crew survival chance for one and two tours, the statistic covers 1939-42. and is as follows.
percentage of survival one tour (two tours)
Torpedo Bomber 17,5 (3)
Light bomber 25,5 (6,5)
Fighter recce 31 (9,5)
Night fighter 39 (15)
Bomber recce 42 (17,5)
Day Fighter 43 (18,5)
Heavy/medium bomber 44 (19,5)
Light GR landplane 45 (20)
Medium GR landplane 56 (31,5)
Long rang fighter 59,5 (35,5)
Sunderland 66 (43,5)
Heavy GR landplane 71 (50,5)
Catalina 77 (60)

does anyone have the statistic for the rest of the war.

I always though that the heavy bombers was higher on this list but maybee its because its only covers 1939-42.

Cheers nick

Re: RAF losses

A comment about these figures. The second tour chance of survival was just a square of the first, so giving the airman as much chance to die as if he was doing his first tour. This is ignoring IMHO the fact that many casualties happened during the first few war flights of a pilot, then his chance of survival was far better.

I'm surprised by the nightfighter percentage... it seems to me that war losses were not so heavy, but I guess accidents were taking an awful toll of them.

Re: RAF losses

Hi

I was too very surprised about the NF loss, especially when guy gibson was sent on a rest tour as a NF pilot. Was this a common thing for tour experienced BC pilots.

Cheers Nick
