Losses of 8th and 9th AF lists it as

92BG, 327 BS

B-17 G-80-BO

42-38101 UX-D "Hurbert"

Took off from Podington to Giessen. Fog prevented view of trees 200yds from end of runway. Turned onto course after take off but before he had gained much height and caught prop-wash and crashed into Great Hayes Wood.

Co-pilot 2Lt William H McQuinn (rescued)
Nav F/O Edwin Hardy +
Bomb 2 Lt Robert R Northington +
Eng Sgt William J Brockmeyer (rescued)
Radio Sgt Harold J Kemler +
Ball Turret T/Sgt Carl L Knarr +
Waist Sgt Edward C Riesing +
Tail Sgt Robert E Dollman +

1/Lt C H Nesbit (Equipment Officer of 325BS) and Mr W Knottage rescued crew from the wreckage. The a/c exploded shortly afterwards
