Lt.Georg Kiefner 1./JG26 23/03/1944 – 1/04/1944

Hi,

Fw190A-6 (w/nr 530948, white 11) of Lt.Georg Kiefner of 1./JG26 was shot down on 23/03/1944 by a Spitfire of 312 Squadron. The pilot got wounded, but returned later to his unit.

On 1/04/1944 Fw190A-7 (w/nr. 340307, white 12) is lost in a crashlanding after being attacked. The same pilot, Lt.Georg Kiefner, is mentioned and again as wounded.

Is this last information correct ?

Is some additional information available in his Flugbuch or another source ?

Many thanks and best regards

Luc

Hi Luc,
I have the same information from WASt (slightly wounded on both arms and head.Treated at Lazarett Kortrijk). The date cannot be confirmed because the page is charred.
I did not find this information elsewhere in the literature. Is your source of information the same?
Regards, Tony

Hi Tony,

Many thanks for your reply.

I don't know the original source of the information.

JG26 War diary, volume 2, by Donald Caldwell, only mentions the crash of 23/03/1944.

Best regards

Luc

His Flugbuch exists, so somebody should check that. I have it somewhere, but need to find it....:-)

No flights from Apr-44 in Kiefner FB. Next flight in FB is for 15-May-44.

(I don't seem to be able to post attachments anymore.)

Jim P and John,

Many thanks for your replies.

This pilot clearly didn't make an emergency / crash landing on 1/04/1944 as he was not flying till 15/05/1944.

Best regards

Luc

Re: Lt.Georg Kiefner 1./JG26 23/03/1944 – 1/04/1944

Hi Jim,
also thank you very much for the interesting information.
Can I please ask when Lt.Georg Kiefner has his last flight recorded in his FB before 15.5.44?
It is interesting that he did not fly for at least a month and a half (he must have been injured or sick). During this time, his 1st Staffel lost at least 5 pilots. Certainly this unit lacked experienced pilots.

Please, does anyone have information on the Fw 190 A-7 W.Nr.340 307 "white12"?

Thank you very much Tony
