Night fighter victory - help needed
I was recently approached by a local person whose father was killed in action while serving on bombers during WW2. He asked if I could find out any more information about his father's loss, so here are the details he gave to me:
9 Squadron, Lancaster III WS-Z Serial: ED834 His father was Sgt. Leslie John Daker, Flight Engineer Took off from Bardney, Lincolnshire for Dusseldorf on the night of 25th/26th May 1943. Shot down by Nightfighter 2Kms. from Vlissingen (Flushing). Bodies of the crew were washed ashore and buried in Vlissingen. Can anyone identify the Nightfighter unit, or even the German pilot concerned, for him? Any help would be appreciated, as Nightfighter units are not my forte. I will post the same information in the Allied Forum in the hope of giving comprehensive coverage to his query.

Re: Night fighter victory - help needed
According to Chorley shot down 03.22 into the Schelde. He has not mentioned the reason. Nightfighter is not mentioned!

Re: Night fighter victory - help needed
Well the closest German claim (regarding time) is the following:
26.05.43 Oblt. Hermann Greiner 11./NJG 1 Lancaster £ 44/3/2B2: 1.000 m. 03.25 Film C. 2031/II Anerk: Nr.285 I am unable to say where 44/3/2B2 is, but I hope Dutch members of this board may know more. |

![]() Hi John,
If Dutch historians are able to establish it was a night fighter, and Georg Greiner is a likely victor, contact me and i'll ask Georg about this particular night and see what i can find out. In the mean time i'll check my own records concerning his career and see what i can turn up. All the best.

David,
Thanks for that. I know the son would be most grateful for any further information.
