Question regarding a 332nd FG MUstang
Hi all
On 12 August 1944 the 332nd FG lost five Mustangs to Flak near Marseilles in southern France. One was aircraft supposedly No 44 with the name Margo, flown by 2/Lt Alexander Jefferson who became a PoW There are numerous interviews and articles online with Jefferson in his later life before he passed away aged 100, but I have not been able to find out what model and serial number of Mustang was that he was flying and if indeed it was Margo and No 44. Does any one know? I have serial number info from various sources for the other four Mustangs lost. I also have yet to find the MACR for this loss. Help requested, Regards Russell |

Re: Question regarding a 332nd FG MUstang
August 8th, 1944 332 FG losses.
One source suggests there were 6 lost. But other sources state only 5. They were - MACR 7469 - P-51C 42-103918 - 100 FS, S/D by Flak 10km SE of Marseille at 10.47 - 1Lt. Langdon E, Johnson - Kia. Other's were - 99 FS - S/D by Flak near Toulon 1045/1100 - 2Lt. Joseph E, Gordon - Kia. Then these three who became POW's. 99 FS - S/D by Flak whilst straffing a Radar Station near Montpellier 1045/1100, pilot bailed out, 2Lt. Richard D, Maconc - WiA - POW. 302 FS - S/D by Flak, Ditched off Narbonne Plage 1045/1100 - 2Lt. Robert H, Daniels Jr- POW. 302 FS - S/D by Flak, pilot bailed out near Narbonne Plage 1045/1100 - 2Lt. Alexander Jefferson - POW. There doesn't seem to be any MACR's for the other four. Probably because of details of capture or result of sighting of crash or sea search . On a positive note George Rhodes Downed a Bf109. Alex |
