Spitfire Losses 29 Dec 42
At 1458hrs, a Fw 190 reported shooting down a Spitfire of 91 Sqn 3km east of Beachy Head (Plt Off I W Downer) but a second Spitfire crash-landed on land half a km east of Beachy Head two minutes later. It is assumed that 10./JG 2 was responsible but from what I can see, Plt Off W G Mart returned to Lympne?
Also Oblt Bruno Stolle of 8./JG 2 claimed a Spitfire at 1435hrs which was thought to be one of these 91 Sqn aircraft but the PlQ would indicate off Brest. John Foreman suggests it was a Mustang of 2 Sqn but this came down off the Dutch coast. Any thoughts? |

Re: Spitfire Losses 29 Dec 42
Thanks Alex. We can discount all but BM310 (602Sqn?) and EN782 (Downer).
