TO II./JG 11
Who was the Technical Officer of II./JG 11 early October 1943 ? It looks as if his aircraft made an emergency landing on the 9th of October 1943.

Re: TO II./JG 11
There was a Bf-109G (Wnr. 19874) of II./JG 11 that made a c/l on Falster island with Uffz. Karl-Heinz Kutzera after an air combat.
But no info if (also) TO? Leendert |

Re: TO II./JG 11
Thanks Leendert, but the a/c that I am after is a Bf 109G that bellylanded near Faaborg on Fyn and that have the marking of a Gruppen TO. The pilot was unhurt and the plane was damaged 10%.

Re: TO II./JG 11
Hi Carsten. You have probably seen this list, there are 8 - Me109Gs crash-landed in Denmark on the 9th; the one you want must be east of Faalborg, marked <o+ but sadly no pilot. My apologies if you know all this.
Incidentally if II./JG11 was in action there it was most likely Eighth AF Mission 113 (B-24s) to Gdynia / Gdansk Poland (primary target was the port and U-boat yards). They claimed 7-3-4. https://www.flensted.eu.com/g194300.shtml Regards Nick |

Re: TO II./JG 11
Carsten. Don't know if you are still interested in this but the T/O II./JG11 late 43--early 44 was Uffz. Kurt Kriese; lost in Black <o+ on Jan.5 '44, shot down by P-51s near Neumunster. Part of Eighth AF Mission 176 was to Kiel not far north; escort of 354FG (P-51s Ninth AF) and 55FG (P-38s) claimed at least 20, most to 354th. The 109G in your photo which crash-landed Oct. 9 looks very repairable and was probably returned to service but may not be the same 109 ??
Uffz. Otto Turowski ( II./JG11) was shot down in a 109G marked <o+ but that was on 27 Sept.'43 in the sea. Nick |

Re: TO II./JG 11
Nick,
" the T/O II./JG11 late 43--early 44 was Uffz. Kurt Kriese; lost in Black <o+ on Jan.5 '44," The TO of a Jagdgruppe was in minimum a Lt. in most cases an Oblt. but never an Uffz. ! Uffz. Kurt Kriese was simply flying the TO aircraft when he was shot down.

Re: TO II./JG 11
Thanks Gerhard, I should have realised that.
Galland's T/O (JG26) was Walter Horten an Oblt.( I believe a US 1/Lt., and an Uffz. was a Staff Sergeant); in an interview with Don Caldwell for Don's JG26 book Galland said his T/O was flying "theoretically" which I take to mean he didn't need to. In the event in Sept. 1940--at the height of the Battle of Britain their T/Os were removed from flying duties; Horten said "I had been grounded, along with all the other T/Os", maybe they were too valuable to be lost. I wonder which other JGs did the same. Regards Nick |
