Fg Off A M Grant 602 Sqn

The above was on the Sqn early in 1940 but does not appear on the CWGC lists nor did he fly in the Battle of Britain; any idea who he was and what became of him? No easy clues in The Gazette

Re: Fg Off A M Grant 602 Sqn

Hi Chris,

Looks like a P/O A M Grant joined 602 back in 1933 and his full name Alastair Milne can be found in the 1938 RAF List. Search of London Gazette shows various promotions etc for Alastair Milne Grant 90181 of the Auxiliary Air Force. He also shows up in the 602 ORB involved in an aircraft accident 10 Jun 33 in Avro J9253. In 1948 was appointed to command of No.3510 FCU but unsure of wartime postings.

regards, Drew

Thanks both. I had started reading through the Air Force List but as yet had not come across his name. Bit of a void as to what he did between March 1940 and 1948

Re: Fg Off A M Grant 602 Sqn

No problem Chris. One of the links suggest he left the squadron soon after 602’s Oct 39 action, however, ORB indicates he had two crashes in Mar 1940 with no personal injury. I would think based on his age and no Battle of Britain involvement his next posting may have been a training post. Apparently Grant had ‘various overseas postings for the rest of the War’ - maybe Middle East or CBI? Hopefully someone else can help fill in the blanks.

regards, Drew
