Combat tactics Me 110/210/410
Researching a particular bombing raid against Wiener Neustadt, Austria I found some reports about american victories over Me 210 in Lower Austria. I'm talking about May 24th, 1944. The 49th squadron claimed 8 Me 210 shoot down that day over Austria.
There is a list showing several hundrets of german Luftwaffe losses over Austria. There is even a list about that day. It shows only Me 109 and not a single one Me 210/110 or 410. I doubt that a twin engined destroyer is easy to mistake as a single engined interceptor during combat. So maybe the german destroyers had a special tactic during combat when they got engaged from enemy interceptors? I'm thinking about maybe they went straight down one engine burning to shut down the same engine just verly low over ground giving the enemy the impression for a victory. Has anyone heard about something like that? I'm looking for any details regarding that topic. Thanks in advance. Kurtl |

Re: Combat tactics Me 110/210/410
On that day, the German forces defending Vienna, consisted of JG 27, I./JG 302, as well as Hungarian fighter forces: a total of 111 single-engined fighters and 35 twin-engined fighters. So, perhaps the a/c shot down by the 49th Sqdn. were Hungarian Me 210s. II./ZG 1 also claimed two P-38s, but they were flying Bf 110Gs, and don't appear to have had any losses on that day to Allied fire, although one a/c crashed while landing at Horsching.
