Hello,

I am researching this pilots air victories and I believe that he shot down a Hurricane on the 6th July 1942, at this time 5/JG52 were currently in Russia,

I would like any information on this Hurricane if possible, I know the RAF sent squadrons to Russia to help. any help is much appreciated.

Re: 5/JG52 Oblt Klaus Brauer

Hello and thanks Jim for the information, from what I've looked into Brauer may have been shot down over the Stalingrad area.

Now I need to look into what Hurricane squadrons were in the area where he shot his down.

regards steven.

Steven, The "Hurricane" claimed on the 06 Jul 1942 could have been from the 235 IAD of the 8 VA. The whole Division was equipped with "Hurricanes" in late June and through Jul 1942 before being withdrawn. The regiments in the 235 IAD were the 46 IAP, 180 IAP, 191 IAP and 436 IAP. I have found that "Hurricanes" were claimed as LaGG-3 in the past, so it could be the same in reverse. The 235 IAD did face the II./JG 52 in July.

Yes, I have at least two instances of JG 54 pilots on my database who claimed "LaGG-3s" that were really 3 GIAP-KBF Hurricanes. I think JG 5 also had a few "MiG-3s" that would appear to actually be Hurricanes too. Did other units have so much trouble identifying the lend-lease fighter?
