Glider in Kothen 1945
At same site as the Me109G-14/Fw190S discussion:
http://www.soldiersmuseum.com/pages/...lery/index.htm there is a burnt out glider. Is it a Ka430? Mike |

Re: Glider in Kothen 1945
Although I was able to get onto that site yesterday, I can't seem to get onto it today. But, from the brief glance I had of it yesterday, I thought it was a Go 242. However, since I did only glance at it I could easily be wrong.

Re: Glider in Kothen 1945
Yesterday when I was looking at the pictures I was almost certain it was a burned out Ka430. It did not look like a Go242 (this one has a completely different nose). Normally I always make copies of interesting pictures but yesterday I was in a bit of a hurry and planned to do it today. But I have the same problem, the link is also dead for me

Yes, the glider(s) were Ka 430s...including the other one in the woods.

Re: Glider in Kothen 1945
Köthen A/F was one of the biggest glider bases. According to report of February 27 1945 there were 80 glider crew and other 45 were ordered to go to Köthen.

Yes, it seems to be turret-less variant of the Gotha Kalkert Ka 430, maybe a prototype? It would indicate that the picture is valuable for aviation history. But frankly speaking I doubt that in the forrest is one more turret-less Ka 430. Its nose profile is not characteristic for this glider. In my opinion this is Gothaer Waggonfabrik Go 242 with its typical nose landing gear rectangular profile (in front view). Regards E. |

Re: Glider in Kothen 1945
Hi, folks...
Yes, it is a Gotha-Kalkert Ka430. I have a three-view line drawing in a book and the 'skeleton' in this photo matches it. Mitteldeutsche Metallwerke had an order placed for 30, of which only 12 were completed in 1944 before the programme was cancelled. Regards |

Re: Glider in Kothen 1945
Good evening,
Perhaps this post from LEMB is of some interest: http://www.luftwaffe-experten.org/fo...r&f=125&t=3103 Greetings Hans |
