464 Squadron claims

Good Morning Gentlemen,
In a recent "Flypast" article on 2 aircrew in 464 Sq the unit was noted as having claimed 11 enemy aircraft and 1 flying bomb !
Does anyone have any details on these claims - were the e/a claims for air to ground ? and on what date / crew claim the V1 ?
cheers for now
Bruce Lander

Re: 464 Squadron claims

Could some of these claims have been by Air gunners during the squadron's Ventura period?

Re: 464 Squadron claims

Hi
Air-gunner claims - thanks, that is a possibility but checking M.Bowyer's "2 Group" history does not give any details - the V-1 claim should be easier to trace though - I'll keep digging

Re: 464 Squadron claims

Hi,I have a book on claims from 400 numbered fighter squadrons and 464 Squadron is not in there.
ruxpin35 might be correct.

Hi Bruce,

Bruce does this book list air-to-air claims for 2 Group? I´m especially interested in the 487 Sqn.

Have you checked 2nd Tactical Air Force by Shores/Thomas. Braham made ranger sorties with different Mosquito fighter-bomber units. He made several claims but I´m not sure if any was made with 464 Sqn. I will have a look if I can find the time.

Cheers
Peter

Re: 464 Squadron claims

Hi Peter,
The 2 Group book by M.Bowyer does not have any listing of claims although it has huge amount of information on raids , a/c taking part etc. It is mostly narrative and well worth having.also the same author's "Mosquito" while listing Mossie n/f claims does not have any for other Mosquito commands ie-Coastal or Ranger etc although many are noted in the narrative.

Regards

Bruce

Re: 464 Squadron claims

Hi Bruce,

I have finally checked 2nd Tactical Air force but found nothing about claims made by 464 Squadron. Maybe it´s still possible that 464 Sqn made some claims against a/c on the ground. I don´t know if 2 Group, being a bomber unit, reported this kind of claims.

Have you checked the book The Gestapo Hunters - 464 Squadron RAAF 1942 - 45 by Mark Lax and Leon Kane-Maguire?

Brian Cull (a member of this forum) can probably confirm if the claim for the V-1 is correct. He´s coming book Diver! Diver! Diver! lists all claims against V-1s

Cheers
Peter

Re: 464 Squadron claims

Hi Peter,

thanks for reply - i have not seen the book you note but will certainly get it .
I have actually been giving Brian Cull some assistance on "Diver Diver Diver"
and unfortunately he is as much in the dark on this V1 claim as I am.
Press on chaps !

Bruce
