109/110s Tiefangriffsflugzeuge for Z.G. 1/2

Browsing through my old notes made from T321 microfilms I found several GLM discussions on Bf 109E and Bf 110C/D/E modified for usage in ground attack role (after failure of Me 210 program). At first the aircraft engines were to be armour-protected (Motorpanzerung) but this caused considerable weight increase and was eventually dispensed with. Instead the aircraft (named Tiefangriffsflugzeuge or Panzerflugzeuge) should have armour fitted to radiators (Kühlerpanzerung).
I wonder if such modifications were carried out and would be visible externally?

regards,
Pawel

Hello Pawel,

I can recommend you the book from Mankau Bf110-Me210-Me410, where he describe all types/subtypes (Baureihen) and modification. IIRC the armour was widely used in east and south front(Africa).

Best regards

Just received my copy of the book, worth having indeed. Seems most of the T-321 stuff is already there

Pawel
