Hptm. Franz Wienhusen - IV./JG4 - KIA Dec.03, 1944

I'm doing research on this fighter pilot. It seems that most of the information seems to center around his death and the fact that he led IV./JG 4 from October 20, 1944. Can anybody direct me to a reference concerning his life prior to this date? Are there any published photographs of him? Thanks

..I would say your best bet has to be the Mombeek JG 4 (Vol II) and JG 5 (Vol II) books - I haven't looked to see if he appears in Girbig's JG 5 history... I shouldn't think there's much out there though...he was Staffelkapitaen of 5./JG 5 during 1942 until early 1944 and served as an instructor for a number of months prior to being appointed to command II./JG 5 - the future IV./JG 4- in September 1944. He had achieved around twelve victories by then..info on Erik's books from http://www.luftwaffe.be
He gets the briefest of mentions in a letter extract from IV./JG 4 pilot Ernst Scheufele which I translated and posted on my site

get the Mombeek book on JG 4 as Neil mentions.

yes he is in Werner Gerbig book on JG 5, a small pic with him standing next to Oberleutnant Schleef. The acct of IV./JG 4 is very brief, and I mean brief

See attached photo: Franz Wienhusen 2nd from the left.
I will meet some of the JG 5 pilots on May 19th during their annual "Eismeerjägertreffen". If you have special questions about Wienhusen, send me a private mail. Regards, Horst

My book, Die Jäger der Graf Zeppelin, has the ISBN number 3-0000-8220-4.
There are full details of Wienhusen's life and even some of his sketches in it.
