Moderator Elections
OK, somewhat a joke and somewhat a proposal.
I was thinking of annual elections for moderator positions. Let's say we choose 3 candidates for each position, and each candidate must have the backing of at least 5 members. The candidates will then be reviewed and either accepted or rejected by the administrator judging by whether the candidate fits his criteria, and if a candidate is rejected there will be continued selection. The candidatures will be completed by April 21st and then there will be first round election to reduce the number of candidates for the moderator position to 2, sorted by which 2 have the most votes, which will be done by a 1 day Poll. There will then be a second round election on May 6th to see who of the 2 will win the election, again through a Poll thread. The candidates can use the off-topic sections for their electoral campaigns. Voter fraud by double registering would be punished by the removal of voting rights for the member. Thoughts? K

Re: Moderator Elections
Perhaps we can have a parliament on TOCH, with members forming parties approved by the administrator, with candidates running for seats through election poll threads in which to discuss technical issues? The parliament would be a closed section of the forum in which only parliament members can post in.

Or maybe Slash and Ozzy Osbourne. It would be a rockin' Forum then... Or maybe the England cricket team. We'd soon be a bunch of losers... Or maybe, just maybe, we'll fulfil the dream of Petronius, and leave things as they are. Ho hum, the things a bored Scouser will get up to.

Re: Moderator Elections
TOCH is community driven, so I am not against some form of community elected moderators.
However TOCH is also very much a privately owned forum. The role of any elected moderator would be limited as long as the electorate doesn't pay taxes! TOCH! moderators as it stands today Ruy Horta = host / admin / (super)moderator John Beaman = (super)moderator Nick Beale = (super)moderator Eric Larger = moderator (of sub forum) John Manrho = moderator (of sub forum) I agree with Nick that the scope for this game is limited without strong support of the community. And even with its support, the extend of control would be limited to moderating and advice.
