German replacement aircraft Med Theatre

I am looking for information on the numbers and types of replacement aircraft sent to Luftwaffe units stationed in Sicily and North Africa. I have found Orders of Battle info, and strengths and losses info from various sources, however finding info on replacement aircraft sent to units is very difficult to find. Shores in Fighters Over The Desert did give some info on numbers of Me109F's that were replacing the E model, as the figher wings were being rotated in/out for training on the new model back in Germany. Would anyone have any rough estimates of types and numbers of aircraft sent to replace obsolete types and losses in the period Dec 1940 to May 43 in the Med Theatre?

Thanks in advance.

If you live reasonably close to the National Archives in Kew, London, I will suggest that you have a look through the intelligence files in the HW 5 records. These contain lots of info regarding aircraft allocations and strength reports for North Africa and the Mediterranean theatre in general.
Also the decrypted Ultra meassages are available on microfilm, but to go through them will require quite some time in Kew.

Re: German replacement aircraft Med Theatre

Hello, jagdafrika

The task of finding this out is fairly simple and can be done by using purely online resources for the period from March 1942 through May 1943.

1. Go to Michael Holm's website at:

http://www.ww2.dk

2. From the units listed there make a list of those that you can see operated in your theatre of interest and for the interesting timespan

3. For these units go to the links provided on the bottom of each unit page called 'Flugzeugbestand und Bewegungsmeldungen'. In these you will find the number of aircraft delivered to the respective units for a given month, and the category (new/repaired/from other unit)

For the period from Dec 1940 through Feb 1942 you will have to resort to other sources, my main source would have been:

'Tägliche lieferungen an die Luftflotten' (BAMA signatures RL 2 III 611 - 619) which is a day by day account of all aircraft delivered to the different Luftflotten from May 1940 through December 1944. These documents have a spreadsheet-form overview of aircraft models and numbers reserved for delivery to a given Luftflotte for a given period of time (see link for example)

PS! There are also lots and lots of additional deliveries filed as small notes (see below links for example)

Re: German replacement aircraft Med Theatre

In the doc that posted Andreas, names are notes in upper part, in mines they are not appearing, seems to recognize some names of Einflieger/überführ. pilots right ???
