Bv.138 in postwar RAF service ?
Dear all,
I've a small notition about a Blohm un Voss Bv.138B-1 which was transferred to the RAF after the war and made a stop at Enkhuizen, The Netherlands, on 19th June 1945. I've no more info that this Bv.138 wore a letter B and was renumbered as RAF serial VK895. Eventually it was scrapped in 1948. Has perhaps anybody info about the Werknummer, Kennzeichen or unit of this Bv.138? Are there any existing photo's known of this particular Bv.138? Thanks in advance, Hans Nauta P.S. Yep, I know this message should be posted at the Post WW2 forum, but considering the date of 19th June 1945 being only 6 weeks after VE-Day and the Bv.138 as wartime service aircraft I felt it would be better to post it here. Re: Bv.138 in postwar RAF service ?
Hi Hans,
According to "War Prizes" by Phil Butler [Midland, 1994], there were three Bv138's surrendered at Kastrup-See which were selected for evaluation on 9th June 1945. They were initially identified as "AirMin S-2" etc but the relationship between these identities and their true AirMin numbers has not yet been traced. Details are:
The only photograph I've seen of a Bv138 with the RAF can be found on page 11 of "War Prizes, The Album" by Phil Butler [Midland 2006]. The caption says that the photo of a Bv138B in RAF markings was possibly taken at Kastrup-See. Kind regards Peter D Evans LEMB Administrator |
